Drywall Repair Backup

Drywall repair is one of the jobs that we perform on a regular basis. When we get called out for drywall repair, we are never quite sure exactly what to expect because it can come about from a variety of situations. Here are a few examples:

  • Saturday night means bath time for the kids. One of them starts the bath water running, then gets preoccupied with a video game. In short time the bathtub water overflows, covering the bathroom floor and seeping into one of the walls. That wall will need to be repaired.
  • The central air conditioning system in your house works fine at keeping the living areas at a comfortable temperature. However, one day you notice that an area of the wall is wet where it meets the ceiling. This could mean that condensation from the AC is not being properly diverted (the AC drip line can get clogged with algae, and backed up). This is another case where drywall repair is needed.
  • One morning before getting out of bed, you are looking at the ceiling and see a section that is darker than the rest. Upon closer examination, you realize that it is actually damp. Your roof is leaking. In reality, it has probably been leaking for a while – it just takes some time before the water finally finds its way into the ceiling. After getting the problem spot in the roof patched up, you will need some drywall repair.

Of course, no homeowner wants to discover any of these situations. Some people wait before calling us, in the hope that the problem was just temporary and will go away on its own. Do not be disillusioned; this is not the case. When your drywall has been damaged by water, you need to deal with it as soon as possible. If the drywall repair does not happen quickly enough, that location becomes a perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive. That makes the inevitable repair more complicated.

Another common occurrence where drywall repair comes into play is when you want your walls textured. In the design of a room, perhaps just plain sheetrock and paint don’t quite fit the decorative strategy. In this case, texturing the drywall surface can make it more interesting. The three common types of texturing that we see most often are:

  • Knockdown – This texture gets its name from the way it is finished after the mud is applied. It’s kind of a tricky procedure but we do it all the time so it’s practically second nature.
  • Orange Peel – This is also a very popular drywall texture today. It is also known as “egg shell” but we think Orange Peel is the best term for it because that’s just what it looks like.
  • Popcorn – This texture is not seen as often anymore. It was quite popular back in the 1970s but newer homes don’t really use the Popcorn texture these days.

We also do drywall repair in the event of a ceiling seam that has come down. This is commonly seen in garages that have drywall ceilings. Since the garage is not normally cooled by the AC system, the heat over the years breaks down the glue that holds the ceiling seams, and the seam starts to fall. This does not mean that the whole garage ceiling is going to fall down, but it is a situation that you should have taken care of in order to preserve the integrity and appearance of the ceiling.

Give us a call to discuss your situation. Whether it’s a small section of drywall that needs patched up, or you have a whole house to do, we have the skill and experience to take care of your drywall repair.
